Our Baz

Baz Gascoyne is married to Linda and they live and work in Sheffield. Baz is originally from Darlington, County Durham, and moved south to Sheffield in 1986 to work for the YMCA as their Christian Outreach Worker. After nearly seven years, he moved on to work for a church as their evangelist. Ten years ago Linda and Baz planted a church in the community where they live. It began in their front room with a dozen people, but for the last eight years has been meeting in the local community centre.

Baz’s three main passions are first to communicate the gospel of Jesus in a relevant, humorous and non-religious way, whether it be at school assemblies, among students, churches, friends and neighbours or those who are ‘Not Yet Christians’. Second, to give opportunities to people to have a go at things and discover their calling and gifting, and not wait until they are old! Third, to break the thinking of church people that until they become involved in full-time Christian work they will always be second-class Christians. Baz says, ‘We need people to be full-time Christians in the place where they live, study, work, play and drink, for this is full-time Christian work!’
